The cherry aroma is widely perceived as elegant and noble. It is present in light-bodied and young, or those subjected to carbonic maceration. It is also very common in rosés.
Interestingly, and kind of opposite, cherry aromas are also associated with aging potential.
Portuguese grapes such as Espadeiro, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Bastardo (Trousseau), and Negra Mole, as well as Ruby Port and young Tawny Port are good examples of wines with cherry notes.
